Understanding, respecting and exercising
Mellow Sea supports what the world of coastal lifesaving passes on to young people. This sport preserves moral and well-being values that teach young people to better understand the ocean and, above all, to respect it.
It’s a practice that aims to be in harmony with nature while being close to the human being. With well-being and the environment in mind, Mellow Sea strengthens its ties with coastal rescue schools, helping to provide them with the equipment they need.

Surf Lifesaving
Surf lifesaving is a sport that originated in Australia. It appeared under the name “Surf Life Saver” at Manly Beach (Sydney) in September 1902. At the time, bathing in the sea during the day was forbidden and even punishable by law. However, as swimming became more frequent, the Australian government had to authorize it. The ocean soon showed its dangers, accidents multiplied and experienced volunteers organized to help those in need.
But unlike the French lifeguards, the Australian lifeguards on the various beaches were quick to compete. This is how the Australians began to regulate lifesaving sports activities, and the first lifeguard meeting was held at Bondi Beach (Sydney) in 1906.
The following year saw the formation of the New South Wales Surf and Swimming Association, which in 1991 became the current Surf Life Saving Association of Australia.
Today in France, lifesaving sport is a discipline in its own right, characterized by the diversity of its events:
- At sea or in the water, with or without a boat, these are “coastal” events.
- In the pool, these are flat-water events.
These spectacular events always attract large audiences, and never tire. The rules that apply to each event are simple and easier for viewers to understand. Lifesaving sport, often practised with equipment, covers a wide range of disciplines, from swimming to kayaking. This takes place in local and global competitions, with the same focus on performance.
